This is inside the built-up area of Ancona on the Adriatic coast, with the Monte Conero headland and the Conero Regional Park just to the south. The coast here includes the port of Ancona and the urban shoreline, while the better known Conero beaches such as Portonovo, Mezzavalle and the Due Sorelle side of the promontory are outside the city but within about 15 km. Ancona is the nearest town of size and has a major ferry port, rail links, hospitals, university faculties and the regional administrative role. The area is known for the natural limestone headland of Monte Conero meeting the Adriatic and for Ancona’s harbour.
