The cluster sits in the Marsica, with the Abruzzo Apennines closing the area and Monte Sirente and the Velino group visible in the wider surroundings. It is near the former basin of Lake Fucino, now a drained agricultural plain that shapes the local landscape. The edge of the Sirente-Velino Regional Park is within this area around the mountain side above the plain. The nearest ski terrain is at Ovindoli on Monte Magnola, roughly 20 km away by road, so it is outside the immediate landscape. Avezzano is the nearest town of size, with rail links, shops and services. Pescina, within the same basin, is known for Ignazio Silone and has a preserved historic core. This part of Abruzzo is known for the contrast between the Fucino plain and the surrounding limestone mountains.
