Location score 55/100Avezzano sits in the Fucino basin below the Velino-Sirente and Abruzzo Apennines. The former Lake Fucino plain lies at the town and is now a wide agricultural basin; the edge of the basin rises quickly toward Monte Velino and the Sirente-Velino area. The Parco Naturale Regionale Sirente-Velino begins nearby on the mountain side of the basin. Ovindoli and Campo Felice are the nearest ski areas, reached by mountain roads in roughly 35–50 minutes depending on conditions. Avezzano itself is the main service town of the Marsica, with rail links, hospitals, courts and the usual commercial services. The wider area is known for intensive farming on the reclaimed Fucino plain.
