The cluster sits in the central Apennines (Appennino Abruzzese). Within about 15 km are the Sagittario valley and the Gole del Sagittario (the Sagittario river gorge) and the mountain lake of Scanno (Lago di Scanno). The local landscape is steep mountain valleys with beech and chestnut woodland, karst terrain and mountain streams. There are no large ski lift complexes inside 15 km. The nearest small towns are Scanno and Anversa degli Abruzzi; the nearest larger service town is Sulmona (rail station, hospitals, larger shops) at a greater distance. Parts of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise lie in the broader area beyond the immediate 15 km radius. The area is known locally for mountain and lake tourism, traditional pastoral activities and small-scale rural agriculture.
