The Anapo valley and the limestone ravines of this part of the Iblei are the main landscape nearby, and the area falls within the wider zone of the Pantalica, Valle dell’Anapo e Torrente Cava Grande nature reserve. Sortino is the nearest town of some size, with everyday services; larger services are in Siracusa. The area is known for the Iblei plateau landscape of dry limestone uplands, olive groves and deep river-cut gorges. The UNESCO site of the Necropolis of Pantalica is in this area.
