The cluster sits in the Marsica basin under the Abruzzo Apennines, with the Monti Marsicani immediately around it. It is inside the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise. The former basin of Lake Fucino lies nearby as a large reclaimed plain. Pescasseroli is the nearest mountain centre of note, with ski lifts at Passo del Diavolo and on Monte delle Vitelle roughly 25–35 minutes away by road. Avezzano is the nearest larger town, with hospital, rail station and the main services of the Marsica area. The area is known for transhumance country, beech woods and wildlife associated with the national park, including bear, wolf and chamois in the wider park range.
