Capistrello sits on the transition between the broad agricultural Fucino plain (the drained Lake Fucino) and the lower slopes of the central Apennines. The Sirente‑Velino massif (Apennines) and the area of the Sirente‑Velino Regional Natural Park lie within about 15 km, providing mountain ridges and trails above the plain. Nearest winter-ski facilities are in the Sirente/Ovindoli–Campo Felice area (ski lifts reached by roughly a 30–45 minute drive). The larger town of Avezzano is a few kilometres to the south and supplies a railway station, hospital, weekly markets and larger shops and services. The locality is in the Marsica area of Abruzzo, a zone of intensive irrigated agriculture on the Fucino plain (fruits, vegetables, potatoes) and of towns rebuilt after the 1915 Avezzano earthquake.
