Casale in Aielli

The cluster is in the Marsica uplands on the edge of the Sirente-Velino area, with the Velino and Sirente groups forming the main mountain backdrop within this part of inland Abruzzo. The Fucino plain lies immediately below, a large reclaimed basin that shapes the local landscape around Aielli and the neighbouring hill towns. The area falls within the Sirente Velino Regional Park. The nearest town of size is Avezzano, which has the main services, shops and rail connections of the Marsica. Celano is nearby and is known for the Piccolomini Castle above the plain. This part of Abruzzo is known for hill towns looking over the former Lake Fucino basin and for vegetable farming on the reclaimed plain.
