The cluster sits on the Piana del Fucino, the drained bed of the former Lake Fucino, a large flat agricultural plain intensively farmed for vegetables, fruit and cereals. The Sirente‑Velino massif and the Parco Regionale Sirente‑Velino lie within about 15 km to the east/northeast and provide named mountain relief above the plain. The town of Celano and the Castello Piccolomini are within the local area (well inside 15 km). Avezzano is the local service centre with a railway station on the Rome–Sulmona–Pescara line, a hospital and industrial/commercial zones. The area has a notable seismic history (Avezzano was largely destroyed in the 1915 earthquake). Nearest alpine ski lifts are on the Sirente/Ovindoli and Campo Felice side of the massif, roughly 30–40 km by road. No national UNESCO designation applies inside the 15 km radius; the main formal protection is the regional Sirente‑Velino park. The area is part of the Marsica subregion of Abruzzo.
