The cluster sits in the central Apennines with the Majella massif (Massiccio della Majella) and its limestone ridges forming the immediate mountain landscape. Parco Nazionale della Majella is the main protected area shaping the surrounding terrain. There are no major ski lift complexes within the 15 km radius; the nearest large ski area is Roccaraso–Aremogna (roughly 40–60 minutes’ drive). The nearest town of size is Sulmona, which offers a regional train station on the Rome–Pescara line, shops, weekly markets and hospital services; Sulmona is also known for its confetti (sugared almonds). The local economy and landscape are characterised by mountain hiking, pastoral traditions (sheep farming and local cheeses) and rural villages on the Majella’s lower slopes.
