The cluster sits in the Peligna valley under the Central Apennines, with the Morrone massif close by and the Maiella rising to the east within the wider area. The Aterno river runs through this part of the valley. The Maiella National Park begins nearby on the mountain side east of the valley. Sulmona is the nearest town of size, with a substantial historic centre, rail connections and services. This area is known for vineyards and olive groves in the valley and for access to the mountain villages and hermitages on the Maiella and Morrone slopes.
