The cluster sits in the Irpinian Apennines, with wooded hills and higher ridges around Nusco. The Ofanto river basin is nearby, and Lake Conza lies within this part of inland Avellino. The Monti Picentini Regional Park is the main protected area in the wider mountain block to the west. The nearest town of size is Avellino, which has the province’s main services and rail connections. Nusco is known as a hill town of Alta Irpinia with a cathedral and an intact historic centre, and the wider area is known for forests, chestnut country and inland Campania mountain villages.
