The cluster sits at the mouth of the Valle Imagna and close to the first Bergamasque Prealps, with the Canto Alto and the Albenza ridge in the surrounding relief. The Brembo river runs just west of the built-up area, and the Serio valley system is nearby on the eastern side of Bergamo’s hinterland. The nearest substantial town is Bergamo, which has the Città Alta, major services, rail links and an airport at Orio al Serio farther south. This part of the province is known for the transition from the Bergamo plain to the prealpine valleys, with dense settlement on the lower slopes and valley floors.
