The cluster is in the Val di Scalve under the Orobie Bergamasche, with high limestone and dolomite massifs close by including the Presolana group to the east and the Cimon della Bagozza area above the valley. The Dezzo river runs through the valley. The Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche lies nearby on the surrounding mountains. The nearest ski area is Colere on the north side of the Presolana, roughly 15 minutes by road from Vilminore, with larger ski areas farther away around Monte Pora and the upper Seriana side. The nearest town of some size is Darfo Boario Terme down the Dezzo valley, with rail access and services; Clusone on the Seriana side is another important centre with a substantial historic core and services. The area is known for Alpine pasture, forestry and mountain villages, and for the severe 1923 Gleno Dam disaster site above the valley.
