The Matese massif rises immediately above Bojano, with Monte Miletto and the other limestone peaks forming the south-west horizon of the plain. Bojano sits at the foot of the Biferno valley, and the Biferno river system and springs are part of the local landscape around the town. The Campitello Matese ski area is on the Matese plateau above the town, roughly 25-35 minutes by road depending on the starting point in the comune. Campobasso is the nearest larger town, with the main rail and road services, secondary schools, shops and hospitals. The area is known for the Matese mountains, karst landscapes and mountain pasture country at the edge of the central-southern Apennines.
