Rustico in Circello

Circello sits on the eastern foothills of the Matese massif (southern Apennines); the Matese mountains are the dominant named landform within about 15 km. The surrounding terrain is hilly to mountainous with forested slopes, pastures and small mountain streams. The Matese area includes a regional natural park (Parco Regionale del Matese) that covers parts of the massif nearby. The nearest sizeable city is Benevento, the provincial capital, which provides a hospital, a train station and wider public services (about 20–30 km to the south). The nearest ski resort area is Campitello Matese (Molise, Alto Matese), at a driving distance typically around 40–50 km. The locality is within the historical Sannio area, a rural zone known for Sannio wines, olive oil and chestnut production.
