The old centre of Rende stands on a ridge above the valley. Paola on the Tyrrhenian coast is the nearest main seaside outlet, but the coast is outside the immediate 15 km landscape. This part of Calabria is known for a mix of hill towns, valley-floor development and access routes between the Tyrrhenian side and the inland mountains.
