The Portofino regional park and promontory lie within the 15 km radius along the coast to the southeast. There are no ski lifts within 15 km; the nearest ski areas are farther inland in the Appennino Ligure. Santa Margherita Ligure (marinas and ferry links to Portofino) is a few kilometres east, Camogli is a few kilometres west and Rapallo offers additional services and connections; Genoa (port, airport, major hospitals and a main rail hub) is the nearest large city to the west. The Genoa–La Spezia coastal railway and the A12 motorway provide direct rail and road links along the coast. Land around the town is a mix of steep terraced hillsides, Mediterranean maquis and small-scale olive growing. Recco is known for its local speciality, focaccia col formaggio.
