Located in the Ligurian Apennines; hilly to mountainous terrain with wooded slopes and ridges. The locality sits close to the Passo del Turchino (a mountain pass in the Genoese Apennines). Part of the surrounding area lies in or next to the Parco Naturale Regionale del Beigua (Beigua Regional Park / Geopark). The Ligurian coast and coastal towns are within a short drive; coastal rail connections run through nearby seaside settlements. No ski lifts are located in the immediate area; alpine or commercial ski resorts are further inland and at higher elevations. Larger population centres within regional reach include the coastal towns to the south-west (with regional train stations) and the metropolitan area of Genoa to the east, which provides higher-level services and rail/road links.
