Rustico in Lavagna

The town sits on the Ligurian Sea inside the Golfo del Tigullio and has a long sandy bathing beach and a local marina. The coastal strip is backed immediately to the north by the lower slopes of the Ligurian Apennines. Chiavari is directly adjacent to the west and provides a larger railway station, shops and weekly markets; Sestri Levante is about 6–8 km to the east and is known for its two bays (including the Baia del Silenzio). The Genoa–La Spezia regional rail line runs through Lavagna with frequent local services to Genoa and La Spezia. The area around Lavagna is part of the Tigullio coastal zone, where the local economy is centred on seaside tourism, boating, fishing and horticulture (olive and flower cultivation). There is no national-park or UNESCO designation within the immediate 15 km radius and no ski lifts in the nearby hills.
