The cluster is in the southern Tuscan inland around Manciano, on hill country that drops toward the Albegna valley and the Maremma plain. The Albegna river system is the main watercourse of this area. Saturnia and the thermal springs of Cascate del Mulino are within this radius. Pitigliano, built on a tuff cliff, is the nearest major historic hill town in the area, and Sorano and Sovana are also part of the same tuff-settlement landscape. This part of southern Maremma is known for olive groves, vineyards and thermal waters.
