The area around
Location score 55/100The surroundings include the Tyrrhenian coast with beaches and the coastal frazioni Principina a Mare and Marina di Grosseto within roughly 15 km. The Parco Regionale della Maremma (Parco dell'Uccellina) and the Monti dell'Uccellina lie along the nearby coastline; parts of the park fall within the wider 15 km area. The Diaccia Botrona wetland is a protected marsh on the coastal plain near Grosseto. The Ombrone river crosses the plain and reaches the sea close to the city. The archaeological area of Roselle (Etruscan and Roman remains) is immediately north of the city. The territory is part of the Maremma, an area historically shaped by marsh reclamation and known for cattle-breeding, agriculture and coastal tourism. Grosseto itself has a historic centre with Medicean walls and a cathedral and functions as the provincial hub with shops, a train station and a provincial hospital. There are no ski lifts within the 15 km radius (nearest mountain ski areas are much farther inland, on Monte Amiata and the Siena-Amiata area).
