The cluster lies in the inland Maremma around Manciano on tuff plateaus and rolling hills in southern Grosseto province. The thermal springs at Saturnia (Terme di Saturnia and the Cascate del Mulino) are inside the comune and are a major local natural attraction. Several tuff hill towns are within about 15 km: Pitigliano (medieval centre carved into tuff with a historic Jewish quarter), Montemerano (a medieval village that is a member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia) and Sovana (Etruscan necropolis and archaeological sites). Etruscan rock-cut tombs and necropoleis are frequent in the surrounding countryside. Manciano itself has a medieval historic centre with local shops and basic services. The local economy includes agriculture (olive oil and vineyards), agritourism and thermal tourism. No significant lake or regional/national park lies within 15 km; the Tyrrhenian coast and the Maremma regional park are farther away.
