Rustico in Monte Argentario

Monte Argentario is a rocky promontory on the Tyrrhenian with steep coastal slopes, coves and headlands, linked to the mainland by the Giannella and Feniglia tomboli and the Orbetello Lagoon. The lagoon is a protected coastal wetland, and the promontory itself lies in a landscape of Mediterranean scrub and old fortifications around Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. The nearest larger town is Grosseto, while Orbetello on the lagoon has the main everyday services for the immediate area. Porto Ercole is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The area is known for its indented coast, sailing and historic Spanish-era coastal forts.
