The area lies in the upper Arroscia valley in the Ligurian Alps, with wooded slopes and narrow mountain valleys around the village. The Arroscia river runs through this part of the valley. The Ligurian Alps are the immediate landscape, and the higher ground toward Monte Frontè and Monesi is nearby; the nearest ski lifts are at Monesi, roughly 20 km away by mountain road. Pieve di Teco is the nearest small town of note, with arcaded streets and services, and Imperia on the coast is the nearest larger centre for broader shopping and transport. This inland part of western Liguria is known for mountain villages, olive cultivation lower down the valley, and the cucina bianca tradition of the upper valleys.
