The area is the flat Salento plain a few kilometres north of Lecce, with the Adriatic coast near Casalabate within about 10 km. Lecce is the nearest city of size and has a large historic centre with major Baroque churches and palaces. This part of Salento is known for olive groves, stone-walled fields and access to both Adriatic and Ionian coasts, but the immediate surroundings are mostly low agricultural land and suburban edges around Lecce.
