This is the Salento plain in the south of the peninsula, with flat to gently rolling limestone countryside shaped by olive groves, dry-stone walls and small fields. The Adriatic coast is about 6 km away around Santa Cesarea Terme and Castro, with a low rocky shoreline and sea caves on this stretch. The nearest town of size is Maglie, which has the main local services and rail connections; Lecce is the main city for the area farther northwest. The area is known for Salento stone villages, olive-growing and the Greek-influenced cultural area of the Grecìa Salentina nearby.
