This is the extreme south of the Salento peninsula at Capo di Leuca, with low limestone ground and a coastline on the Ionian and Adriatic meeting area around Santa Maria di Leuca. The sea is the dominant feature within the radius, with rocky stretches, small inlets and sea caves along the coast near Leuca and the channel toward the western side. The nearest town of size is Leuca itself for seafront services and marina functions, while larger everyday services are in the lower Salento towns inland. Santa Maria di Leuca is known as the cape settlement at the end of Salento and for its 19th-century villas and lighthouse.
