Small rocky islets and emergent sandbanks lie a short boat ride from shore and the stretch is used for diving, boat trips and small-scale fishing; Porto Cesareo has a fishing/boating harbour. Inland within the 15 km radius is the flat Salento plain of olive groves and arable fields; there are no mountains or significant relief. Nearest town of size is Nardò (historic centre, shops and municipal services) about 10 km inland. Nearest airport is Brindisi (≈40–50 km); the city of Lecce is roughly 35–40 km away.
