The area around
Location score 85/100Randazzo sits on the northern slopes of Mount Etna; Etna's volcanic cones and recent lava terrain are within the roughly 15 km surroundings. The Etna Regional Park (Parco dell'Etna) covers the slopes around the town. The Nebrodi mountain range and the Nebrodi Regional Park lie to the north/northwest of Randazzo and form forested high ground in the local landscape. The Alcantara river and the Gole dell'Alcantara (Alcantara gorges) lie to the east of the town. Ski facilities on Mount Etna (Piano Provenzana on the north side) are accessed by road from Randazzo in roughly 30–45 minutes. Randazzo itself has a medieval centre built largely in dark lava stone and a station on the Circumetnea narrow-gauge railway that circles Etna. Mount Etna is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is characterised by volcanic terrain, lava-stone architecture and agricultural land using the volcanic soils (including vineyards and orchards on Etna's slopes).
