The Sangro valley and the Trigno basin shape the surrounding landscape, and the area is close to the Alto Molise uplands rather than to any plain. Within the area are traditional mountain villages and pasture country, and Agnone itself has a substantial historic centre with churches and old streets. The wider area is known for bell founding at the Marinelli foundry and for transhumance country across the high Molise hills.
