The surroundings are a stretch of Adriatic coast with sandy beaches backed directly by a coastal pine wood (pineta) along the seafront. Pineto's beaches have held the Blue Flag (Bandiera Blu) for water-quality and services in multiple seasons. The town is on the Adriatic railway line and the A14 motorway runs along the coast with nearby exits. Nearby towns within about 15 km include Roseto degli Abruzzi on the coast (larger bathing resorts and a marina) and Atri inland, which has a medieval centre and a cathedral. The provincial capital Teramo lies farther inland (around 18–20 km) and provides the nearest major administrative and commercial services. Gran Sasso and its ski stations are well inland (roughly 70–90 km, about 1.5–2 hours by car). Land use in the immediate area is coastal tourism infrastructure, small-scale agriculture on the plain and low wooded hills inland.
