The area sits on the low hills above the Fortore valley, with open farmland, olive groves and long views across the inland Molise countryside. The Fortore river system is the main natural feature nearby. Lake Occhito, the large reservoir on the Fortore at the Molise–Puglia border, is within this wider area and is one of the few named landscape features close to Santa Croce di Magliano. Termoli is the nearest larger coastal town in daily use, with a rail station, port and full services. This part of lower Molise is known for cereal farming, olive oil and hill villages rather than for a protected or nationally famous landscape.
