Location score 83/100Favignana is the largest inhabited island of the Isole Egadi (Aegadian Islands) off western Sicily, in front of Trapani. The settlement sits on an island with the Mediterranean sea at the shoreline; the coast includes rocky shores, bays and sandy coves such as Cala Rossa and Lido Burrone. The waters around Favignana are inside the Area Marina Protetta Isole Egadi (Egadi marine protected area). The small neighbouring island of Levanzo lies a few kilometres away; the other main Egadi island, Marettimo, lies further to the northwest. The island has a long tuna-fishing history and the former Tonnara Florio complex is on Favignana; fishing and boat-based tourism, diving and snorkeling are important local activities. Regular ferry and hydrofoil links connect Favignana with the port of Trapani, which is the nearest town of size with regional transport and services. There are no ski lifts on the island.
