The Dora Baltea runs through the valley floor. The Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso begins a short distance to the south in the valleys above Villeneuve and Introd. The nearest ski area is Valgrisenche, reached by road in roughly 25–35 minutes; the lifts of Pila above Aosta are also within about 30–40 minutes. Aosta is the nearest town of size, with full services and a substantial Roman centre including the Arch of Augustus, the theatre and city walls. Avise and Saint-Nicolas nearby are known for castles and historic village nuclei, and the area is part of the main corridor of the upper Dora Baltea valley with vineyards on some of the sunnier slopes.
