The cluster sits in the Chienti river valley on the western slopes of the Monti Sibillini. The Monti Sibillini range and parts of the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini lie within roughly 15 km and are the main mountain feature visible from the area. Lago di Fiastra (a man-made reservoir) and its shore are within the local mountain area and are frequently visited for walking and boating. The Chienti river runs through the valley system that gives the area its name. The central Apennine seismic sequence of 2016–2017 affected many towns in this part of the province. The nearest larger town of note is Camerino, a historical university town with municipal services and shops; the provincial capital Macerata and the Adriatic coast lie beyond the local mountain area.
