Macerata is the nearest town of size and has a substantial historic centre, the Sferisterio arena, university facilities and the usual provincial services. Recanati lies nearby and is known for its historic centre and association with Giacomo Leopardi. This part of the province is known for mixed farming, hilltop towns and, toward the east, the corridor of settlements running down to the coast.
