Tursi

The settlement is a small hill town in inland southern Basilicata surrounded by agricultural land: olive groves, vineyards and cereal fields with pockets of woodland on the nearby slopes. The historic centre of Tursi includes the old Arab quarter known as the Rabatana. The municipal territory includes the frazione of Anglona, with an archaeological/medieval site and the remains of an old cathedral. There are no national parks or Alpine-style mountain ranges inside a 15 km radius and no ski lifts nearby. The Ionian coast and its coastal plain lie to the southeast at about 20–25 km. The area is part of the rural Matera province and is locally known for olive oil and other agricultural products.
