The cluster is in the built-up area of Foligno, so the immediate setting is an urban plain in the Umbrian Valley rather than open countryside. The Apennines rise east of the town, with Monte Subasio and the mountains toward Colfiorito and the Valnerina within about 15 km. The Topino river crosses Foligno. The Parco regionale del Monte Subasio begins nearby on the Assisi-Spello side of the valley. Foligno is a substantial town with rail connections, services, shops and a notable historic centre. Spello, with its intact hilltown fabric and olive slopes, is close by. The area is known for the broad cultivated Umbrian valley between Assisi, Spello and Foligno.
