Lake Trasimeno lies within the local 15 km radius and is the dominant geographic feature. The lake is one of Italy's largest and is shallow; it contains islands including Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese. Isola Polvese has public gardens, walking trails and hosts research/education facilities and is served by ferries. Parts of the lakeshore and islands are managed as a protected/regional park around Trasimeno. Nearby lakeside towns within the radius include Passignano sul Trasimeno, Magione and Tuoro sul Trasimeno, all with ferry links and lakeside services. The immediate countryside is low hills and plain used for mixed agriculture (olive groves, vineyards, cereals). The lake is used for boating, fishing and birdwatching, with regular passenger ferry services between towns and islands. There are no ski lifts within 15 km; Apennine skiing areas lie farther inland.
