The cluster is in the built-up area of Foligno, so the resident landscape is the Umbra Valley rather than open countryside. The Apennine relief rises immediately to the east with Monte Subasio above Assisi and the first ridges of the Valnerina and the Monti Martani within the wider 15 km setting. The Topino river crosses Foligno. Monte Subasio Regional Park lies just to the north-west around Assisi and Spello. Spello is the nearest historic hill town of note, and Assisi is close by with major monuments and UNESCO status. Foligno itself is a substantial service town with a rail station, hospitals, schools and a full commercial centre, and it is known as a main centre of the central Umbrian plain.
