Marliana

This is on the first slopes of the Pistoiese Apennines above the Valdinievole. The area is cut by chestnut and mixed woodland and by the hill roads that climb between the spa towns of Montecatini Terme and Pescia. The nearest larger town is Montecatini Terme, which has full services, rail connections and a large historic spa district. Pistoia is the nearest provincial city, with a substantial historic centre and cathedral. The Abetone area and its ski lifts are the nearest significant skiing, roughly an hour to an hour and a half away depending on the exact hamlet. This part of the province is known for olive groves on the lower slopes, chestnuts in the higher hills, and for the thermal towns at the foot of the hills.
