Fano

Adriatic coast with sandy beaches, a small harbour and marina at the town; the Metauro river reaches the sea here. Immediate surroundings are a low coastal plain with agriculture (vineyards, olive groves, orchards) and gentle hills to the west. Within about 15 km are small hill towns and coastal frazioni such as Mondolfo and Marotta and stretches of continuous coastal development. The town has a historic centre with Roman remains (Arco d'Augusto) and medieval walls and hosts the long-running Carnevale di Fano. The A14 motorway and the Adriatic rail line run close to the town, providing regional road and rail connections.
