The Belbo and Bormida valleys are the main river valleys in this part of southern Asti and western Alessandria. This is wine country known for Barbera d'Asti, Moscato and other Monferrato and Langhe-Roero-Monferrato denominations. Nizza Monferrato is the nearest town of size, with everyday services and a substantial historic centre. Canelli is also close, known for wine cellars and sparkling-wine production. Parts of the wine landscape around here are included in the UNESCO vineyard landscape of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, with the core zones centred on nearby vine hills rather than on every surrounding village.
