This is in the Oltrepò Pavese hill country, with vineyard-covered ridges and small valleys of the Versa and nearby tributaries. The area is known for wine production, especially Pinot Nero and sparkling wines of Oltrepò Pavese. Stradella is the nearest larger town, with rail services and everyday shops and services. Pavia is the main city in the wider area for hospitals, university facilities and a fuller historic centre. Several villages of the central Oltrepò sit nearby on hill spurs, but there is no major lake, coast, national park or ski area within the immediate 15 km landscape.
