Vico I Crocevia, Paterno

The cluster lies in the inland valleys between the southern Apennine ridges of the Val d'Agri area and the mountains on the Basilicata–Campania border. The Agri basin and its cultivated floor are the everyday landscape here, with wooded slopes and low mountains around it. The Appennino Lucano Val d'Agri Lagonegrese National Park lies in this part of Basilicata, covering much of the surrounding mountain country. Marsico Nuovo and Viggiano are the nearest larger hill towns in the valley system; Viggiano is known as a pilgrimage centre and for music traditions. The area is known for mixed farming, woodland and the Val d'Agri oilfield.
