Contrada Iannino, Riace

The Ionian coast is at Riace Marina, with a long beach on the Gulf of Squillace. The area rises quickly from the shore into the first hills and ravines of the Locride, with olive groves and small valleys behind the coast. The nearest larger town is Locri, which has daily services and a railway station. Gerace is within the local inland area, on a hill above the coastal plain, and is known for its historic centre and cathedral. This stretch of the Ionian side of Calabria is known for beaches, olive cultivation and the archaeological finds associated with the Riace Bronzes, discovered off the nearby coast.
