The area around
Location score 55/100The cluster sits in and around Ragusa, within the limestone uplands of the Monti Iblei (Hyblaean Mountains): karst plateaus, ravines and terraced agricultural land are the dominant physical features within ~15 km. The Irminio river and its valley run close to the city to the south. The built fabric of Ragusa includes the historic lower quarter Ragusa Ibla and the more recent upper town; Ragusa Ibla is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing “Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto.” The surrounding countryside is worked: olive groves, vineyards, citrus and almond cultivation are common in the immediate area. The wider area of southeastern Sicily contains other Val di Noto baroque towns (for example Modica and Scicli) and coastal resorts lie further toward the Mediterranean.
