Scicli is one of the towns included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto.” The town lies on the Hyblaean Mountains (Monti Iblei), a limestone plateau of low hills, valleys and gorges. The Ionian coast with beaches at Sampieri and Donnalucata is a short drive to the south. The surrounding countryside is agricultural, with olive groves, almond trees, vineyards and citrus cultivation. Ragusa and Modica are the nearest larger towns and provide regional services and railway connections; both are within roughly twenty kilometres. The area has been used as a filming location for the Inspector Montalbano television series. There are no local ski lifts; the nearest ski facilities are on Mount Etna, well over 80 km away. Comiso is the nearest regional airport, at a driveable distance to the north.
