The cluster sits inside the built-up area of the city of Ragusa. The town contains two historic cores—Ragusa Ibla (lower) and Ragusa Superiore (upper)—with late-Baroque churches and civic buildings. Ragusa is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing “Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto.” The town lies on and is surrounded by the Monti Iblei (Hyblaean Mountains), a limestone plateau with karst features. The Irminio River runs south of the town and the Riserva Naturale Orientata Fiume Irminio protects part of the river corridor. The Mediterranean coast is within the local area, including Marina di Ragusa and Punta Secca. The surrounding countryside is agricultural, with olive and almond cultivation, vineyards and cereal fields. The area is known for the concentration of late-Baroque towns in the Val di Noto.
